Chancay, August 2026. The Yireh Soup Kitchen, located in the Señor de la Soledad community in Chancay, now has a clean energy source that will allow it to improve the conditions under which it prepares and preserves the food it provides to its community. Through an initiative developed in partnership between Austral Group and the social enterprise Bureo, a solar panel was installed that will directly benefit 90 people.
Before the installation, the dining hall lacked electricity, which limited the use of equipment for food storage and preparation. According to Javier García, superintendent of Austral Group, the solar panel will improve these conditions and facilitate the work of the mothers responsible for the dining hall.
“With this initiative, we seek to address a specific community need through a clean energy solution that will contribute to improved food preservation and preparation, as well as better care for beneficiaries. This project reflects our commitment to working alongside our partners to generate sustainable improvements in the quality of life of our communities,” García stated.
En efecto, el comedor se ha convertido en el primero del distrito en contar con energía renovable. “Ahora que tenemos luz, gracias al panel solar, podemos cocinar contentas y usar lo que no podíamos para atender a los vecinos y a nuestros casos sociales. Estamos muy agradecidas con la empresa”, comentó Deyse Rodríguez, presidenta del comedor Yireh.
Sustainable energy serving the community
Community kitchens are essential spaces for addressing the food needs of vulnerable populations. Facilitating their access to basic services and sustainable solutions strengthens their capacity to support the families who depend on them. The Yireh kitchen is managed by a board of eight mothers and twelve members.
As part of the project, initiatives will also be developed to promote best practices in the responsible use of clean energy. Participants will receive training on the responsible use, operation, and safety of the system. Through this project, Austral Group continues to promote initiatives focused on sustainable development and strengthening its areas of influence, such as Chancay.
