Social management

At Austral, we aim to create a positive impact on our surroundings, contributing to the improvement of the quality of life of the communities near our operations.

We carry out social responsibility programs in the communities where our production plants are located, such as Coishco, Chancay, Pisco, and Ilo, as well as in our offices in Lima and Callao.

Our social management is framed within the following lines of action: a) Education and Employment Promotion, b) Health and Nutrition, c) Promotion of Environmental Care, and d) Social Development.

We promote the creation of shared value through initiatives co-created with the community and the building of good relationships with leaders and members of the communities, enabling us to continue innovating. Moreover, we form alliances to promote sustainable development hand in hand with our stakeholders, thus making a positive impact in favor of the most vulnerable groups.

Below we present the social responsibility programs that we have been executing:

Creciendo Juntos (“Growing Together”) Program

Creciendo Juntos (“Growing Together”) Program

This program aims to promote the formalization of artisanal fishermen in the ports where we operate, thus supporting the artisanal fishing sector facing this issue in Peru. We implement this program in collaboration with the Association of Fishermen and Shipowners Dedicated to Fishing Activities in the Coishco Cove and with the Regional Association of Artisanal and Related Fishermen of Callao. To date, we have worked with over 200 fishermen from both associations, supporting them in their formalization process.

Muévete (“Move”)

Muévete (“Move”)

Since 2015, the Muévete program has aimed to promote healthy lifestyles and recreational activities for children and young people in the ports where we operate. Through this program, we offer free activities and workshops in various sports and cultural disciplines that include soccer, volleyball, drawing, dance, painting and others.
To date, more than 2,600 children in the districts of Coishco, Pisco and Chancay have been positively impacted by this program.

Tu Futuro (“Your Future”) Program

Tu Futuro (“Your Future”) Program

The Tu Futuro program aims to provide training and employment opportunities for young people who are neither in employment nor in education or training (NEET). It is developed in collaboration with the Forge Foundation. In each program edition, Austral collaborates by providing scholarships for young people residing in the ports where we operate. The program includes 3 phases, such as call and selection, soft and technical skills training, and job placement support. To date, more than 250 scholarships have been awarded, contributing to the development of young individuals and achieving the formal job placement of 56, despite the country’s economic challenges stemming from the pandemic and the economic crisis.

GRI Competitive Business Program

GRI Competitive Business Program

This program, developed since 2020 by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), aims to help our suppliers and shipowners identify and manage their Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) indicators, providing them with a competitive advantage to access new markets. To date, more than 112 suppliers and shipowners have developed their Sustainability Report under GRI standards and are part of a national network of responsible buyers.

Armada de Hierro (“Iron Navy”)

Armada de Hierro (“Iron Navy”)

Armada de Hierro is an initiative promoted by the National Fisheries Society, which aims to help to reduce anemia rates in children under 3 years of age. At Austral, we carry out this initiative with community members in our area of influence and with the sons and daughters of our employees and workers.
Both groups participate in screening days, where children are evaluated based on their hemoglobin levels. The identified anemia cases receive 6 months of nutritional follow-up, including medical consultations, demonstrative cooking workshops, and talks for parents, with the aim of reversing their initial anemia diagnosis.

Yo Soy Voluntario Austral (“I am an Austral volunteer”):

Yo Soy Voluntario Austral (“I am an Austral volunteer”):

The employees and workers of our Coishco, Chancay, Pisco, and Ilo plants and the Headquarters, through the Volunteer Committees at each location, identify social assistance actions and propose volunteer projects in their respective areas of influence. Every year, a large number of employees and workers dedicate their time to carry out improvements in infrastructure, remodeling of spaces, and recreational activities on special occasions, such as Christmas, for the benefit of their community.
