In this context, the Peruvian fishing industry is actively working to identify and reduce its carbon footprint, aiming to mitigate the impact of climate change, which is evident in the rising global temperatures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, the Ministry of the Environment (MINAM) has acknowledged the progress made by the fishing company Austral Group, a sustainability leader in the sector, awarding it the second star on the Huella de Carbono Per\u00fa platform. This recognition comes as the company has successfully calculated and verified carbon dioxide emissions for the years 2021 and 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this regard, Adriana Giudice, General Manager of Austral, asserted that the company has been making significant efforts to reduce and mitigate the environmental impact of its operations. \u201cTo date, our three plants located in the North-Central region have transitioned to natural gas as an energy source. Similarly, with the help of our Sustainability Committee, in the area of climate change, we have been developing plans to reduce emissions\u201d, she emphasized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To obtain its second star, Austral has submitted its Carbon Footprint Report Verification Statement, prepared by the SGS international certification body, in accordance with the requirements of ISO 14064-1:2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fishing Activity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The industrial fishing sector in Peru accounts for 1.5% of GDP and carries out its catch and processing operations in compliance with high environmental standards that ensure the sustainability of the biomass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adriana Giudice stressed the importance of companies such as Austral Group publicly and transparently presenting their Greenhouse Gas Emissions measurement for 2022 to all stakeholders. This transparency aims to showcase the impact of their activities on the environment. In that year, the company logged a total of 83,804 tons of CO2 equivalent emissions. The measurement serves as a management tool that enables the company to identify opportunities for improvement in line with eco-efficiency and cleaner production, and thus contribute to reducing the effects of climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HIGHLIGHT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Huella de Carbono Per\u00fa (\u201cPeru Carbon Footprint\u201d) is an official tool of the Peruvian government that allows recognizing how public and private organizations have managed their greenhouse gas emissions for the benefit of the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>El Per\u00fa tiene como meta reducir en 40% la emisi\u00f3n de gases de efecto invernadero al a\u00f1o 2030, seg\u00fan el compromiso adquirido en el Acuerdo de Par\u00eds.
